Sending and Receiving PTT Messages

Sending a PTT Message

Steps to send a PTT message from G8.

  1. Press and hold the PTT button.
  2. When G8 finishes beeping, continue to hold the button and speak clearly into the microphone, with the device about six inches from your mouth.

A green banner displays when G8 is in a menu. If the Status screen or one of the Feature screens is displayed when the message is transmitting, the PTT screen displays in transmit mode.

PTT messages can be up to 30 seconds in length. During events, the Sending banner covers all other banners until the PTT button is released.

    CAUTION:

If you have an O2 sensor, talk into G8's microphone and not the cartridge, as this could interfere with the sensor.

  3. When you finish talking, release the PTT button.
G8 beeps once to let you know it's done listening. It displays a green banner while it transmits the message.

  • Receive only channel: An error screen displays and tone plays when trying to send on this channel.
  • PTT not enabled: An error message displays to inform you Push to talk is not enabled on this device.

Receiving a PTT Message

What happens on G8 when a PTT message is received.

During events, the Receiving banner covers all other banners until the message ends.

  1. G8 beeps twice to signal an incoming PTT message.
  2. G8 displays a blue banner while the message plays. In most cases, G8 displays a blue banner with the channel and assigned user you are receiving the message from. If the Status screen is currently displayed when a PTT message is received, the PTT screen displays with the blue banner until the message finishes playing.
