What's New in the October 2026 G8 Update

Learn about the new features and enhancements coming with G8 firmware 1.4.

G8 firmware version 1.4 update is available on October 27, 2026. This release adds Bluetooth headset support, Reduced Communication Frequency, improved GPS location, and a manual time offset setting. It also includes bug fixes and stability improvements. The update is delivered over the air, so powered-on and connected devices download it automatically.

Bluetooth Headset Support

You can now pair a Bluetooth headset with G8 for Push-to-Talk (PTT) and emergency voice calls. This allows workers to hear messages and speak clearly in noisy environments without removing hearing protection.

Important: Bluetooth headsets support voice communication only (PTT and SOC calls). Gas alarms and device alerts still sound on G8 and do not play through the headset.

Reduced Communication Frequency

A new Reduced communication frequency (G8 only) setting is available in Blackline Live configuration profiles. Use it to reduce how often G8 connects to Blackline Live, so workers in low-connectivity areas can preserve battery life. Devices store gas readings until they connect, and high-urgency events always trigger an immediate connection attempt.

Note: See Enabling Reduced Communication Frequency for more information.

GPS Location Improvements

G8 now acquires satellite location more reliably, resolving known GPS issues.

Manual Time Offset

You can now set a manual time offset on G8 so the device clock matches local time when automatic time zone detection is not available.

Bug Fixes and Stability Improvements

This release resolves customer-reported issues and includes general stability improvements.
